1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using the WikiRest API ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.
2. Description of Service
WikiRest provides an API for searching and retrieving Wikipedia content. The content is sourced from Wikipedia and is subject to Wikipedia's licensing terms (CC BY-SA 4.0).
3. Account Registration
- You must provide accurate information when creating an account
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your API keys
- You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized access
- One account per person or organization unless otherwise agreed
4. Acceptable Use
You agree NOT to:
- Exceed your plan's rate limits or quota
- Share API keys with unauthorized parties
- Attempt to circumvent rate limiting or security measures
- Use the Service for any illegal purpose
- Scrape or bulk download content beyond normal API usage
- Impersonate another person or entity
- Interfere with the Service's operation
- Reverse engineer the Service
5. API Usage and Rate Limits
- Free tier: 5,000 requests per month
- Starter tier: 50,000 requests per month
- Growth tier: 250,000 requests per month
- Business tier: 1,000,000 requests per month
- Quotas reset on billing cycle
- We may temporarily reduce limits during high demand
- Repeated violations may result in account suspension
6. Content Licensing
Wikipedia content delivered through our API is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. You must:
- Attribute Wikipedia as the source
- Include a link to the original article when displaying content
- Comply with CC BY-SA 4.0 requirements for derivative works
7. Payment Terms
- Paid plans are billed monthly in advance
- All fees are non-refundable except as required by law
- We may change pricing with 30 days notice
- Failed payments may result in service suspension
- You can cancel anytime; service continues until end of billing period
8. Service Level
We strive for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We provide the Service "as is" without warranty of any kind.
- Target uptime: 99.9%
- Scheduled maintenance will be announced in advance
- No SLA for free tier accounts
9. Intellectual Property
- WikiRest's code, design, and documentation are our property
- Wikipedia content is owned by Wikipedia contributors
- You retain rights to your applications using our API
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, WikiRest shall not be liable for:
- Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
- Loss of profits or data
- Service interruptions
- Accuracy of Wikipedia content
Our total liability shall not exceed the amount paid by you in the 12 months preceding the claim.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify WikiRest against claims arising from your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.
12. Termination
- You may terminate your account at any time
- We may suspend or terminate accounts for Terms violations
- We may discontinue the Service with 90 days notice
- Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases
13. Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms at any time. Material changes will be notified via email or service announcement. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to conflict of law principles.
15. Dispute Resolution
Any disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association. Class action waivers apply to the maximum extent permitted by law.
16. Severability
If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.
